If you already own a domain, then you can use it with Hushmail. Instead of sending emails with one of our shared domains such as @hushmail.com or @therapysecure.com, you can use an address with a custom email domain such as @raymondrogerscounseling.com.
In today’s post, we’re going to talk about several reasons why you might want to consider this option and what you can do to set up your Hushmail for Healthcare account to make the most out of using your own domain.
Are your clients accustomed to your current email address, and do you want to keep using it so there are no breaks in your communication with them?
Do you have a business website with a recognizable name, and do you want your email address to be a clear extension of this website?
Do you want to be able to send and receive encrypted emails with your own domain email address?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then a custom domain could be for you.
When your website, email address, and social media accounts all use the same name, your customers instantly have the impression of a cohesive brand.
Name recognition for your business is a crucial factor in acquiring and retaining clients. When you use a custom domain for your email account, that means your business name is on every communication you send. And when your clients need to send you a message, again, your business name is at the top of their minds because of your email address. Your domain name is a constant reinforcement of who you are and what you do.
Your business domain also follows you wherever you go. This is important because change is inevitable in the online world. The portability of your domain helps you avoid marketing or communication gaps with your clients, even if you change email providers. When you bring your domain to Hushmail, we’ll be happy to help you transfer your old emails to your new account (a nominal fee applies). If you choose to leave Hushmail later down the road, you can take your domain (and emails) with you.
If you’ve decided that you want to use a custom domain with your Hushmail account, there are a few things you need to know to ensure that everything works flawlessly.
If you don’t have a domain yet, you’ll need to register one at a site like Squarespace, Godaddy, or Bluehost (more are listed below).
Next, you’ll need to set up your MX records. Mail Exchanger (MX) records are a set of entries that can be configured on the site where your domain name is registered. When someone sends an email to an address on your domain, the MX records tell the email servers where the email is supposed to go. In order for the email to come to your Hushmail account, the MX records need to point to our servers at Hushmail. The process is comparable to rerouting your mail to a different post office, except you’re rerouting your emails to a different server.
When you sign up for a Hushmail account, we’ll send you an email that walks you through the steps of setting up your MX records. We’ve also put together help articles explaining the setup for specific domain registrars.
When you’re allowing an email provider, such as Hushmail, to send email from your domain, it’s important to set an SPF record.
SPF stands for Sender Policy Framework. Setting an SPF record for your email provider helps receiving email providers verify that the sending server is allowed to send emails on your domain’s behalf. This helps email providers reduce spam in their systems.
Setting up your SPF records can be accomplished in just a few minutes. Read our recent blog post Make sure your emails get through with SPF records for a full understanding of how they work and how you can set them up.
If you’ve been in business for a while, you might be wondering what will happen to all of the emails you and your team have accumulated over the years when you make the switch to Hushmail. As we mentioned earlier, you can take the emails with you by migrating them to your new Hushmail account. This is something you can do on your own, but we’re also happy to help you for a nominal fee.
Remember, if you have multiple accounts associated with your custom domain, they will need to be moved to Hushmail. Once we sync the accounts with our system, they will all benefit from our encrypted email and web forms.
Does an email account using your own domain sound like the right choice for your practice? Now’s the perfect time to get started.
One of the benefits of Hushmail for Healthcare is that you can use your own domain name for your email account. There are several reasons why you might want to consider this option, including consistent branding and name recognition for your business. If you decide that using your own domain is the best option for you, there are a few things you should know about so you make a smooth transition from your old account. Related posts: |
